84th Annual Academy Awards - Red Carpet Recap!

Per my usual, we all know how I feel about these award ceremonies so no disclaimer is necessary. Let’s get straight into my Red Carpet Recap…

(no chronological order)

Viola Davis - Vera Wang - Love the color, fit and the overall execution. At first, her drastic hair change had to grow on me, but after seeing her throughout the night I thought it really worked for her. Stunning!

Penelope Cruz - Armani - Usually I am satisfied with Penelope’s dress choices and last night was no exception. She looked amazing. The belle at the ball effect. She always gives us this regal elegant lady in her choices. Gorgeous!

Congrats Octavia Spencer - Tadashi Shoji - Per her usual this awards season, we caught Octavia wearing an amazing gown by her favorite designer. If it works why change it. I could not agree with her more. Lovely!

Michelle Williams - Louis Vuitton - Michelle is always a hit and miss with me. Sometimes I appreciate her overall execution and sometimes not so much; however, she is very consistent with her style and that I like. Last night she was actually one of my best dressed. Very chic and flirty. Loved this on her.

Jennifer Lopez - Zuhair Murad - Not sure what others thought about J-lo’s look, but I thought she looked great. Loved the silhouette…she still gave us her out there sexiness, but in a subtle and classy way. Very nice!

Gwyneth Paltrow - Tom Ford - Gwyneth is another consistent beauty. She always gives us clean lines with a statuesque sex appeal. I loved this on her. Chic and to the point!

Cameron Diaz - Gucci - I was far from disappointed in Cameron’s gown choice. Simple and pretty!

Emma Stone - Giambattista Valli - I am always interested to see what Ms. Stone wears on the red carpet because she isn’t consistent and I love that about her. She switches it up and gives us whatever mood she is feeling. I loved this on her. She pulled this gown off beautifully.

Jessica Chastain - Alexander McQueen - I am on the fence about this look. After pondering it for awhile I decided that although I do not love it, I do not hate it either. I think Jessica looks beautiful here, but there is just something that I do not love. I cannot seem to pinpoint it.

Natalie Portman - Christian Dior - Another awards ceremony another reason for me to not be impressed with Natalie. I adore her in all aspects, but for some reason I keep expecting more from her on the red carpet, but she keeps giving me less. Nevertheless, she’s still beautiful.

Milla Jovovich - Elie Saab - I actually adored this look. Stunning!

Maya Rudolph - Johanna Johnson - I really adore Maya and her dress was no exception. Simple, but it fit and looked great on her.

Congrats Meryl Streep - Lanvin - She is always a hit and miss for me as well, but I love Meryl and she has her own style which I can definitely appreciate.

Rooney Mara - Givenchy - I really liked this look on her. Rooney is always giving us something else to talk about. This Givenchy choice definitely fit the bill in my opinion.

Sandra Bullock - Marchesa - I have to say although she looked very pretty I was not impressed with Sandy’s gown choice. I would have liked to see something else on her, but I adore Sandy and her fashion risks.

Remember to check out Fashion Police tonight 10pm (EST) for more red carpet coverage.

It’s A Wrap - NYFW - Fall 2012

New York City Fashion Week ended yesterday and there is so much to talk about. I have to be honest and say that I was not as impressed as I thought I would be this season. Fall 2011 & Spring 2012 blew me away, but Fall 2012 not so much; however, there were some amazing pieces that deserve recognition. There are a million shows that took place during fashion week, but I decided to only cover a small percentage this season which is a big jump from my previous season posts. Similar to my wrap up post last season, I created three categories: Love (these collections as a whole really had some strong and impressive pieces, color statements and details). Like (these collections were nice with some twists). Somewhat Like (these collections had a few nice pieces that stood out to me).

 L-O-V-E

There were some really good collections as a whole and as stated above I did not include them all, but here are some of my top FAVS…

J Mendel

Carlos Miele

Carolina Herrera

Dennis Basso

Diane von Furtstenberg

L-I-K-E

Overall, I liked a few more collections, but these stood out to me the MOST…

3.1 Phillip Lim

Badgley Mischka

BCBG Max Azria

S-O-M-E-W-H-A-T L-I-K-E

I was not as impressed with Marchesa (who normally blows me away) nor Michael Kors too much this season, but they along with a few others had a few pieces that really made a STATEMENT….

Marchesa

Michael Kors

Ports 1961

Betsey Johnson

I have to admit it was hard for me to just showcase one piece from each collection because there were some impressive pieces; however, I showcased the looks I would want to wear if I could hehe.

Enjoy and let me know your thoughts.

Grammys 2012 Recap…

Honestly, MOST award shows are pretty dry to me so the Grammys was definitely no exception. Sometimes I think watching white paint dry on a wall would probably be more entertaining. Nevertheless, let’s do a recap of, the ONLY reason I watch any awards show to begin with, the RED CARPET.

There really wasn’t anything to write home about in terms of fashion from last night, but the below pretty much sums up the night…

~Adele - One of my favorite artist who is truly amazing - took home several Grammys including Album of the Year. Very impressive she deserves it.

~Nicki Minaj - I truly have mixed feelings about her. I like Nicki as a lyricist, but I truly cannot agree with her performance last night. It really left me speechless and NOT in a good way. SMH!

Now here are the top looks of the night via the red carpet (in no particular order)

Adele - Giorgio Armani - I thought Adele looked really classy and chic on the red carpet, but this picture definitely does not do her justice. This is a classic Adele look. Older, polished and sophisticated. I do hope moving forward she will experiment more with her style though.

Alicia Keys - Alexandre Vauthier Couture - Anyone that knows me, knows I am team Alicia all the way. I thought that she looked chic and simple last night. Loved the neck piece and the look as a whole EXCEPT the hair.

Fergie - Jean Paul Gaultier Couture - Loved the color, but the look itself did nothing for me. Not sure if I disliked the dress in general or if I just disliked it on her, but for me this just did not work.

Katy Perry - Elie Saab - I have this major obsession with Elie Saab so I really loved this look on the red carpet. I thought Katy was still true to herself, but in a more chic, simple and grown up way. Contrary to what others think, I do not mind Katy’s monochromatic look; however, in general I’m not a fan of the blue hair.

Kelly Rowland - Alberta Ferretti - Kelly really looked great last night. I thought the dress fit her perfectly and I loved her hair.

Nicki Minaj - Versace - As state above, I have mixed feelings about Nicki in general, but when it comes to her fashion statements I am always left confused and annoyed. Last night was no different. Again this robe for a different occasion, on someone else, etc would have probably looked decent, but it was the wrong place, time and person. I really cannot wait for Nicki to find herself and a look that really works for her without the theatrics. They just aren’t necessary.

Rihanna - Giorgio Armani - For me, Rihanna was the best dressed of the night for the simple fact that she owned her look. She was sexy, simple and perfect for the Grammys . Lately, Ri has been toning her looks down, but they still never disappoint me. If you couldnt guess I am also team Rihanna all the way.

To catch more recaps do not forget to tune into Fashion Police tonight at 10pm (EST).
